Manuel Ramos-Francia, appointed as CEMLA's Director General for the period from 2019–2023

 

On 11 October, 2018, CEMLA's Assembly designated Dr. Manuel Ramos-Francia as Director General of the Center for a period of five years (renewable) as of 1 January, 2019.

Dr. Manuel Ramos-Francia has a B.A. in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University. He has been Director of the Center for Analysis and Economic Research at ITAM in Mexico. He has also held several positions at the Ministry of Finance as Deputy Minister (for Revenues), Chief Economist, and Chief Adviser to the Minister of Finance. He joined Banco de México in 2001, first serving as a Senior Adviser to the Board, then as Director General for Economic Research (Chief Economist) and as Vice-Governor and Member of the Board (current position). In addition, Dr. Ramos-Francia has given seminars and conferences at several national and international forums that include his participation in events hosted by multilateral organizations, central banks, and other institutions and organizations related to Economics and Central Banking issues. He represented Mexico in the G20 Central Bank Deputies Group. Moreover, his professional career has been complemented with his academic activities in different universities, both national and international and by publishing several articles on monetary policy, fiscal policy, economic growth, international economics, trade and applied econometrics in top ranked journals. He was given the Professional Merit Service Award from ITAM in 2009.
