The sessions of this Meeting address issues of great interest for the Heads of financial market infrastructures in the region. Session 1 deals with issues related to Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), possible operating framework for CBDCs, as well as their implications for monetary policy, issues related to the design, operation and interoperability of CBDCs in existing payment circuits are analyzed. Session 2 considers expectations on cross-border payments, the support of central banks as infrastructure providers that could enable the development of cross-border payments is discussed. Session 3 analyzes the challenges of regulation, regulation optimization and surveillance in the face of technological developments, for example, with the growth of payment Fintechs, there are complementary payment service providers that are not regulated in several countries, therefore, it is discussed how regulation should not stop the technology applied to payment systems, but it should help maintain stability in the payment system. Session 4 looks at how financial market infrastructures are developing to allow instant payments, the advantages and challenges of fast payments in the region. In this III Meeting, in particular, a private session is held in Mexico City and via online, for Heads of financial market infrastructures in the region, which is a Forum for the discussion of selected topics.

Objetive

The objective of this III Meeting is to exchange experiences and discuss the most relevant developments for financial market infrastructures in Latin America and the Caribbean.

This meeting is aimed at Heads and Experts in the areas of financial market infrastructures, especially payment systems, of CEMLA's Member Central Banks.
