Fiscal policy is a key element for the macroeconomic stability of a country, and, as such, it has been a matter of discussion for several years in Central Banks that are part of CEMLA. The goal of the Joint Research in 2019 is to assess whether a country’s public debt is sustainable, and to delineate what could a country do to procure its sustainability. In the CEMLA Intermediate Meeting of the Working Group of the Joint Research the participants will present their project on “Fiscal policy: Fiscal Sustainability and Proposals for Institutional change”. On this occasion, we are pleased to announce that we will have Dr. Alejandro Izquierdo from the IADB as invited lecturer and adviser.

Objective

The purpose of the Intermediate Meeting of the Working Group of the Joint Research is to review the research projects, provide participants with a forum to discuss the common research theme, present the approaches they have considered, and show their research progress. Thus, the goal is that the forum will be useful to obtain feedback on the common research theme. The final product of the Joint Research will be a collection of papers containing the most valuable pieces of research elaborated by the participants.
