The meeting is aimed at the Heads of the Legal Department of Central Banks and legal advisors, with the purpose of fostering a gathering where participants can share and examine experiences, best practices, initiatives, and projects. The goal is to explore the transformation of the role and daily work of the legal department to make a strategic contribution to their organization, while improving their methods through the incorporation of technology and the development of new skills, based on reflection on recent experiences and future perspectives.
Among the possible topics to be addressed are various legal reforms related to the redefinition of the central bank's mission. The impact of fintech services and digital currencies and the corresponding legal aspects. The central bank's relations with the central government (autonomy); relations with the financial system (regulator and lender of last resort); legal risk of central banks in managing financial crises; prudential regulation; compliance with a code of sound banking practices; payment system legislation; financial contracts; internal organization of the legal department; legal aspects of issuing legal tender banknotes.
