The IMF will present its joint strategy with countries in the region for implementing the new standards for macroeconomic statistics on balance of payments and national accounts contained in BPM7 and SNA2025. The IMF will highlight the tools that will support compilers in implementing the new standards. Countries in the region will present their national experiences in implementing BPM6 and SNA2008, highlighting their successes, areas for improvement, and the challenges they faced during the process. The IMF will provide an overview of the updates to the SNA2025 and BPM7, highlighting the benefits for decision-making based on new statistical data and products that incorporate advances related to economic interconnection, digitalization, financial innovation, and well-being. The harmonization of BPM and SNA standards will also be highlighted.
Objective
To support Latin American countries in their preparations to implement the new macroeconomic statistics standards, specifically BPM7 and SNA 2025. During the event, the level of preparedness of countries to adopt these standards will be assessed, priorities and additional resource needs will be defined, and strategies for implementation will be developed. The seminar will also seek to identify the capacity-building needs of Latin American countries.
