VII Fintech Forum Meeting

The team of the Financial Market Infrastructure Directorate of CEMLA, in collaboration with the Bank of Spain, coordinated the VII Fintech Forum Meeting. The event took place in person on March 6th and 7th, 2024. The attendance included 53 representatives, of whom 15 joined virtually, from 25 institutions and CEMLA associates, representing 20 different countries.

During the first day, various innovations in the financial sector were highlighted, such as the use of machine learning and quantum computing, in addition to ongoing efforts by central banks in regulating fintechs. The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. José Antonio Murillo, CEO of RappiCard Mexico. In the machine learning session, Fernando Campos García from BBVA and Eugen Cleveland from the Deutsche Bundesbank participated. Finally, in the quantum computing session, we had the participation of Noemí López Chamorro from the Bank of Spain and Gianni Del Bimbo from Multiverse Computing, one of the leading companies in the field.

On the second day, the focus was on the impact of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) on payment systems. The session featured presentations by Jose Aurazo from the BIS, Breno Santana Lobo from the Central Bank of Brazil, and José Manuel Marqués Sevillano from the Bank of Spain, where the potential relationship between CBDCs and fast payment systems was analyzed. Projects of the Forum on Stablecoins and Fintech Regulation were also presented, and a roundtable discussion was held to address the topics to be tackled in the coming year.
