Seminar of Experts on Big Data and Data Science Applications

The seminar took place from November 13 to 15, 2023 and was co-sponsored by CEMLA and the Bank of Spain. This event was a meeting of experts to exchange ideas and experiences in the central banking of Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly about the progress made and the initiatives being carried out in the field of Big Data and Data Analytics. Additionally, the seminar presented how these techniques are being incorporated into the usual instruments of central banking and identified the possibilities of collaboration on these issues between the central institutes of the region.

In addition to the opening presentation of the Text algorithms in Economics seminar, the agenda of this meeting included 16 presentations distributed in 5 sessions:

• Applications of natural language processing techniques
• Experimental statistics (I)
• Experimental statistics (II)
• Applications of Machine Learning techniques
• Big Data and Data Science in a National Statistics Institute

The seminar was attended virtually by 200 participants mainly from Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as European, North American and Asian countries, as well as international organizations.
