IV Meeting of Heads of Financial Risk Management in Central Banks

The Meeting was held on April 26 - 27, 2023, in Santiago, Chile. It was attended by 35 in-person and 29 virtual attendees from 30 institutions and associates of CEMLA, representing 14 Latin American and Caribbean countries, the United States, 8 European countries, and 1 Asian country. The meeting covered sessions on different topics such as risk-management considerations in strategic asset allocation, financial risk management and capital preservation strategies, the design of stress tests for central banks' balance sheets, risk management governance, and climate change and risk management. Professor Sascha Steffen, from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, gave a keynote lecture on his paper entitled “Liquidity Dependence and the Waxing and Waning of Central Bank Balance Sheets”.

Profesor Sascha Steffen

Frankfurt School of Finance & Management

Sascha Steffen is a Professor of Finance at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. His research interests include banking, financial intermediation, monetary policy, corporate finance, corporate debt markets and has published vastly in top finance journals, including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Review of Financial Studies. He also has editorial experience as associate editor of the Journal of Banking and Finance and the Journal of Financial Stability, and policy panel member of Economic Policy. Additionally, he has initiated and completed several research projects together with industry partners, including the Association of German Banks, and the European Central Bank, among others. He holds a PhD in Finance from the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main.
