Conference theme
For the Finance Research Letters 2022 hybrid conference (both in-person and on-line paper presentations), we would like to invite submissions on substantial, original, and unpublished research. The focus of the conference is on New Advances in International Finance, but we especially welcome papers that address topics such as macrofinance, corporate governance, financial markets, banking or market interdependence.
Call for Papers
You are cordially invited to submit your research papers for consideration at the Finance Research Letters 2022 hybrid conference that will take place on 21-22 April 2022 in CEMLA, Mexico City. The conference encourages submissions from any part of the world. In particular, papers from Latin America will be especially well received. Paper submission and presentations at the conference may be in English. This year’s event will be held in hybrid form, with both in-person and on-line paper presentations. Acceptance of a paper automatically allows the Conference Programme Committee to assign you or an attending co-author to be a discussant on another paper.
Awards
Two prizes will be awarded, each of which will be 1,000 USD. The first of these awards will go to the best paper of the entire conference, and the second to the best paper from a PhD student.
Journal Publication Opportunitties
The most outstanding articles will have the opportunity to be published in a Special Issue of Finance Research Letters or the Latin American Journal of Central Banking. Authors who wish their paper to be considered for either of the two special issues need to clearly indicate during the conference submission process that they are opting for dual submission, i.e., conference and journal.

After the conference, the authors will be notified and provided with detailed instructions on how to submit papers to the special issues. Papers submitted will not be subject to submission fees and will go through the usual reviewing process in accordance with each journal´s guidelines.

With the theme of “New Advances in International Finance”, the annual event will be held at CEMLA, at Calle de Durango 54, Mexico City 06700 on 21-22 April 2022.

- · March 1: Notification of acceptance of paper
- · March 7: Deadline for conference registration (presenters and other participants). There is no registration fee, but notification of attendance must be given by following the instructions that will be sent by e-mail in the notification of acceptance of paper.

El Encuentro se realizó en formato digital del 28 al 30 de septiembre de 2021 y contó con la participación de 97 representantes de 37 instituciones y asociados del CEMLA de los siguientes países y regiones: Argentina, Aruba, Barbados, Belice, Bolivia, Brasil, Canadá, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, España, Estados Unidos, Guatemala, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay, Portugal, República Dominicana, España, Surinam, Bahamas, Filipinas, Trinidad y Tobago y la Unión Europea. El evento se centró en los siguientes temas: resiliencia organizativa; tecnologías digitales, cambio climático, cumplimiento normativo y riesgo de proveedores como riesgos emergentes; modelos de apetito, tolerancia y capacidad de riesgo; y marcos organizativos para la gestión del riesgo operativo.
Sesión 1. Plática invitada. Resiliencia organizacional – un imperativo estratégico en los bancos centrales
En esta sesión se habló de la resiliencia como concepto central para abordar la gestión del riesgo operativo. Algunas conclusiones de la sesión fueron las siguientes:
- · Una organización resiliente es capaz de responder a eventos de alto impacto e incertidumbre, no sólo a eventos contingentes específicos y anticipados. Es consciente de la interdependencia con otras instituciones e industrias, empleados, clientes, proveedores, etc.
- · La resiliencia se apoya en las dimensiones estratégica, operativa y cultural de la organización. Su desarrollo se basa en 4 competencias: previsión, visión, supervisión y retrospección.
Sesión 2. Riesgos emergentes: tecnologías digitales y cambio climático
Esta sesión se dedicó a los riesgos derivados de las monedas digitales y el cambio climático. Algunas conclusiones de la sesión fueron las siguientes:
- · En general, las monedas digitales de los bancos centrales (CBDC) no se consideraron una mejora de los actuales sistemas de pago. Aunque sigue habiendo interés por las CBDC, y existen grupos de trabajo y proyectos piloto para explorar su implantación. Sin embargo, las CBDC conllevan riesgos relacionados con la seguridad, la fiabilidad, la escalabilidad de las operaciones, la supervisión y la correcta asignación de funciones y responsabilidades.
- · El cambio climático puede desencadenar múltiples tipos de riesgos operacionales. Uno de ellos es el daño físico a las personas o a las infraestructuras debido a fenómenos extremos. Dada la complejidad de la modelización de los impactos relacionados con el clima, es importante disponer de datos, normas y herramientas analíticas que abarquen los distintos niveles de afectación.
