Course on Monetary and Financial Information for Macroeconomic Analysis

This course was carried out in virtual format, from July 25 to 29, 2022. The objective of the course was to provide the accounting and analytical elements necessary to analyze the panorama (balance sheet) and income statement of a Central Bank, its connection with the formulation and monitoring of monetary policy measures and the macroeconomic impact of these measures.

The course was attended by more than 70 compilers and analysts from 12 countries in the region. Despite the format, the question and answer sessions were very enriching and encouraged the exchange of ideas among the participants.

The course agenda was made up of presentations and practical exercises that covered the following topics:

  1. Analysis of Monetary and Financial Information;
  2. Profits and Loss of the Central Bank, Dynamics of the capital of the Central Bank, Effects of inflation in the accounts of the Central Bank, Intervention in the exchange market and Collection by creation of monetary base;
  3. Concepts to Analyze the Minimum Capital of the Central Bank Compatible with Inflation Goals and Dynamics of the Capital of the Central Bank;
  4. Management of Monetary Policy of the Central Bank;
  5. Financial Solidity Indicators and Stress Test;
  6. Credit Risk and Provisioning Calculation; and,
  7. Liquidity risk.
